Main Valley Parks
Rainbow Park marks the site of the now gone Rainbow Lodge built by Whistler Pioneers Myrtle and Alex Phillip. Only a few cabins remain.
Rainbow Park's core is a large grassy area beside Alta Lake. Picnic tables and covered tables, both with barbecues are scattered throughout. Beach Volleyball courts are also available. However during the summer the fire hazard often rises to a high enough level that the municipality will remove the charcoal barbeques at the picnic tables. During the summer a concession operates during the day, most days, with basic food and drink. Washrooms are available beside the parking lot. The beachfront is an excellent area for swimming and there is a small dog area for offleash dogs.
Access by car is via Alta Lake Road. The lots can be full during the summer for mid-day through the afternoon. By bike or foot the best way is by the Valley Trail, see the system map here.
Perhaps the busiest park in Whistler. This park includes not only the beach areas around the lake itself but a large stretch of forest around it. This page will focus on the area around the lake.
The focal point of this park is the beach and grassy area on Lost Lake. This is accessed by Lost Lake Road in winter, but during summer parking is restricted and access is by bus only. The Lost Lake Shuttle runs from the main bus loop and is free for all users. Alternatively one can walk or bike from the village, the routes are well signed.
At the lake you'll find a concession stand, open during the summer, washrooms, picnic tables with barbecues. During the peak summer months a high fire hazard may mean the municipality will remove the barbeques as a safety measure. If you have a dog there is a doggy beach a little up the lake. For swimming the lake is the warmest of the local lakes as it does not have very much inflow.
In the outlying areas of Lost Lake Park there are a myriad of hiking, biking, and multi-use trails. On the otherside there is a disc golf course, a considerable distance from the lake itself. To see a map of the mountain bike trails click here. The Resort Municipality of Whistler has a good map of the park here.
This little park in Creekside is nestled onto the edge of Alpha Lake. It has a nice swimming area, beach volleyball courts, tennis, and a great little play area for kids featuring the "Owls Nest.". A number of picnic tables are scattered through out as well. A small dog park also is located here.
Access is best by walking/biking as parking is quite limited.
This large park is located just behind Meadow Park Sports Center and on the River of Golden Dreams. Featuring two baseball diamonds, washrooms, a ball hockey area, tennis, and picnic tables (with barbeques), this park also has a water park and a playground for children.
A new addition to the park is a colletion of outdoor fitness equipment.
Access by car is easiest by using the parking at Meadow Park Sports Center, just north of the Village on the left, it is just past Niclaus North Golf Course. Access by biking or walking is easiest through the Valley Trail Network, to see a map of the network click here.
Tucked onto the shores of Alta Lake in the Alta Vista neighbourhood is Lakeside Park. Here users can find a small area for picnicing, playing, and swimming. Unlike Lost Lake, Alpha Lake, or Rainbow Park there isn't a beach area rather just a dock. Kayak and canoe rentals are possible in summer along with a small concession stand.
Access by car: Driving south from the village turn right onto Blueberry Drive (the first traffic light south of the Village), take the first left onto Archibald Way. The third right should be Carleton and the first (and only) left on Carleton will take you right to the park and parking lot. Access by biking or walking is easiest through the Valley Trail Network, to see a map of the network click here.
This is a small park down the lake from Lakeside park. It has very limited parking accessed from Highway 99, it's best accessed via the Valley Trail and by foot or bike - to see a map of the valley trail network click here. The park has a dock for swimming, boat rentals, some picnic tables and a limited grassy area. It is the shadiest of the lake parks for the most part.
